On April 3, 2024, our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at home surrounded by her children.
Myrtle “Myrt” Bartholomew, 98, was born on August 18, 1925 in Ashton, Idaho, the daughter of Charles and Louise Brown. Myrt was raised in Gooding and married Les Bartholomew on August 16, 1945 in Elko, Nevada. Les was her lifelong dancing partner and when on the dance floor people would stop and watch them dance.
Myrt never forgot a joke (shady at times) or a good story. Everyone loved to listen and have a good laugh. She was still reciting them at age 98 bringing smiles to us all.
Myrt loved to make levi patch work quilts and over the years all family members received one. She loved spending every fall making jellies and dish cloths to give away to family and friends at Christmas time.
Myrt and Les lived in Fairfield for many years where he worked for the State Highway Department, and Myrt sold Avon and delivered it throughout the prairie. They moved to Hailey where Les was killed while working for the State Highway Department. Myrt continued working in Hailey until she retired and moved back to her childhood home of Gooding where family was close by.
She is preceded in death by her husband Les, her parents, and eight older siblings; five brothers - Owen Brown (Alberta), Clifford Brown, Don Brown (Jackie), Bill Brown (Pearl), and Glenn Brown (Jean); three sisters - Leona Graves (Harvey), Mildred Patterson (Manning) and Lois Meserole (Frank).
Myrt is survived by one son - Bill Batholomew of Boise; three daughters - Patty Guenechea (Bernie) and Linda Saras (Michael) of Shoshone, and Jeanne Whitaker (Randy) of Boise; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Patty and Linda were wonderful care takers and lived with Myrt to allow her to stay in her home.
A very special thank you to the staff of Hospice Visions, especially Connie, “T”, and Tiffany for their loving care and compassion.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Elmwood cemetery in Gooding. A luncheon will follow the graveside service at the Gooding Senior Center, 308 Senior Ave, Gooding.
Funeral services are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service - Gooding Chapel.
