Phillip Wert Obituary

Phillip Wert - Link to live stream broadcast

Phillip Wayne Wert, 75, of Wendell, Idaho passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. The hard-fought battle with congestive heart failure and complications of Multiple Sclerosis came to a peaceful end. We know he has now found incredible joy. His body has been freed of the tremendous fight, as well as, the glorious celebration of reuniting with family and friends.

Phil was born to Wayne Keith and Mildred Virginia Andrus Wert on August 22, 1948 in Twin Falls, Idaho. Phil joined his older sister Pam and soon after came his baby sister Melanie. His early childhood was spent in the Orchard Valley of Wendell. Growing up here he enjoyed being with his Uncle Loren and two sisters.

Phil met June Marie Johnson in April of 1966 and she quickly became his lifelong best friend. They enjoyed a year of courtship. They were married August 20th, 1967. They were sealed for time and all eternity on December 8th, 1973 in the Idaho Falls Temple.  Phil and June raised their six children Stephanie, Daphney, Tiffani, Phil II, Bethany and Whitney in Wendell. They enjoyed many hours of supporting their kids and grandkids in all of their activities. Many hours were spent on the bleachers of the local and out-of-town gymnasiums, softball, baseball and football fields, 4-H arenas, auditoriums listening to band and choir concerts and watching plays.

Phil was the true definition of a family man.  Much of his time was dedicated to his wife, children and his grandchildren. He found pure joy and happiness within the presence of his family. They spent countless times camping, fishing, hiking, and playing games. Phil spent many hours working side by side with June and his family on Me-Pa-Phi Farms where he taught them many family values, how to work hard, and to simply enjoy life being in the presence of one another. In his later years, he created impactful relationships with his grandchildren. He thrived in their presence. You would often hear his grandchildren sharing stories of their sporting events and life experiences. He quickly became an essential piece of their lives as he supported each of them and offered his unconditional love. Phil also enjoyed his Sunday nights which were reserved for family Pinochle games, and family time.

Phil had a genuine love for the Lord Jesus Christ, his faith gave him daily strength, hope and joy. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as a teacher and leader in various callings. He was honored to have the privilege of being a Bishop and serving the members of the Wendell 2nd Ward and others.

When Phil was young, he became employed by Ambrose Distributing and Farms. Later he went to work for the Wendell Grange. In 1993 Phil was diagnosed with MS which led to a needed career change. He was then employed by the LDS church as a maintenance and grounds worker. He continued working for 30 years leading him to his retirement.

Phil is survived by his loving wife June and his six children Stephanie (Rodney) of Bliss, Daphney (LaRon) of Jerome, Tiffani (Kevin) of Mountain Home, Phil II (Brandy) of Wendell, Bethany of Jerome, and Whitney (Drew) of Vale, Oregon. Seventeen grandchildren: Amber, Ashley, Alex, Elsie, Zane, Nicole, Jordon, Emily, Kirstin, Julian, Tristan, Evan, Autumn, Emma, Orin, Dax, and Axel; eight great grandchildren with one on the way. He is also survived by his sister Melanie (Tom) of Wendell and his two special uncles Loren and John Wert, Aunty Maid and Willabelle along with several special friends and his adopted dog Maggie.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for the loving and compassionate care to all those who have provided medical care over the years.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents, sister Pam Fleming, special nephew Bradley Mattix, sister-in-law Joyce Adams, Uncle Ralph and grandparents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 17 at 11:00 am at the Wendell LDS Church. Burial will follow at the Wendell Cemetery. A viewing will be held before the service from 10:00-10:45 am.
