Eda Larson Obituary

Eda Jane "Janie" Larson, 90, Shoshone, Idaho passed away May 14, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. She was born April 28, 1928, in Leeton, Missouri to Ross Earl Mason and Mabel Bernice Stumpf.

Along with her parents and Uncle Henry Mason, the family moved from Missouri to Jerome Idaho, when Janie was 5 years old riding in the rumble seat of a Model A Ford sharing space with her two sisters, Lola, Bettie and a trunk. The girls wore Jodhpurs made by their mother for the trip to Idaho.

Janie met the love of her life, Sam Smoot Larson, on the 4th of July, 1944 in Jerome, Idaho. She was a contestant in beauty contest and Sam was a heckler in the crowd. She rode in a convertible provided by Churchman Motors in Jerome. On March 1, 1945 they were married in Jerome, Idaho. Living in Dietrich for a time, moving to Jerome and then again ending up to farm in Dietrich, Idaho in 1957. They had two Children. Danny Dean came along in 1948 and Kathy Ann in 1952.     Janie and Sam farmed side by side and also worked at other jobs. Janie was a cook and bus driver for the Dietrich School District, truck driver for a local farmer and Sam worked for Idaho Transportation Department. In December 1969, they sold the farm and moved to Shoshone. In 1970, she became the owner operator of the first Liquor Dispensary in the State of Idaho-"Janie's Party Mart" for 15 years. When Sam retired so did Janie! They built a log cabin at Magic Reservoir in 1987, where they loved to fish.

She loved fishing, gardening, dancing, embroidery and was a mean Pinochle player to the end at the Golden Years Senior Center. Family and friends meant so very much to her. She had a saying-"There is no such thing as a stranger, just friends I haven't met yet". Janie loved playing her organ. She would open the doors and play for the whole neighborhood. Playing by ear for years she finally learned to read music.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, two sisters, Edith Francis Mason, Lola Elizabeth Metcalf and husband, Sam. She is survived by her children Danny Dean (Nancy) Larson of Twin Falls, Kathy Ann (Tim) Thompson of West Magic; Grandchildren Stacey Pearson of Pocatello; Christopher Larson of Cottonwood Heights, Utah; Thomas Alworth of Jerome; Danielle Larson of Twin Falls; Nickolas Larson (Brittany) of Hansen; Joanna Hedin of Charleston, South Carolina and Amanda (Manny) Ornelas of Bellevue, Idaho.
