Arlan "Frank" Martin was born on October 6, 1939 in Jerome, Idaho to Elda Mary and Claude Frank Martin, and passed away on January 3, 2019. His siblings include Arden Claude, Arlus Frank, Arla Jean and Darrell Lee.
Frank joined the US Navy Submarine Service in 1957, stationed in Norfolk VA.
While on leave returned to Wendell and married Mary Ann Newbrough on December 21st of that year; four children were born in this marriage. They later divorced in 1980.
While serving in the Navy he was selected to be a member of the crew for the USS Triton, the first nuclear submarine to circumnavigate the world, which was documented in the book, Around the World Submerged “The Voyage of the Triton”.
He was honorably discharged in 1966 and moved to Wendell, Idaho. In 1967 relocated to Emmett where he began working for Hetherington Electric. He then was a partner in D&M Sales and Service and branched out to own his own business, Martin Refrigeration.
He married Carole Caldwell-Mitchell on May 27, 1988 in Virginia City, NV; soon after they moved to Elko, NV where he continued working in commercial refrigeration until retirement. During this time, he continued his favorite hobbies of gun collecting and restoring classic cars with his sons. Frank and Carole entered their cars into many shows which won them numerous trophies and awards.
Frank is survived by his wife Carole Martin, sons Glenn (Roberta) Martin, Dennis (Teresa) Martin, Howard (Cathe) Martin and daughter Shirley Simmons, stepsons Robert (Wendy) Mitchell, James (Tara) Mitchell, sister Arla (Jim) King, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Demaray Funeral Service – Wendell Chapel 164 East Main Street Wendell. Burial will follow at the Wendell Cemetery in Wendell.
