Michael Thompson Obituary

A Celebration of Life for Michael J. Thompson will be held at his residence in Gooding on Saturday, October 3, 2020.  Mike passed away at his home on December 20, 2019.

Mike was born on June 4, 1954 in Madelia, MN, the youngest son of Everett C. and Mae D. Thompson, moving to Gooding when Mike was 3 years old.  He graduated from Gooding High School in 1972 and joined the Idaho National Guard, serving in the Boise Helicopter Unit and Gooding Tank Division for a total of 14 years.

On April 12, 1979 he married the love of his life, Marta Novis.  From this union was born a daughter, Lacie Thompson and a son, Lance Thompson.  He worked with his father at Thompson and Son Construction until moving to the Wood River Valley in 1989 where he continued in his construction trade working on many celebrities’ homes.

Mike was a storyteller and could go on forever telling joke after joke.  Mike knew no strangers, everyone he met was a friend.  He enjoyed traveling to places where there was a warm beach, especially where he considered his home away from home in Puerto Vallarta, MX, where he enjoyed hanging out with peddlers on the beach.  He always had a way with animals that had even the wildest of them eating out of his hand.  He had dogs, cats, a raccoon, skunk, monkey and up until his death his companion Stinker the Wonder Skunk.

He is survived by his wife Marta of Gooding, his daughter Lacie Thompson (Jim Bradley), his son Lance Thompson (Sara Calhoun), granddaughter Harlee Manning, all of Bellevue, Idaho, brother Richard (Bev) Thompson, Twin Falls, Idaho, nieces Evette (Ryan) Owens great-niece Jayce Thompson, Queen Creek, AZ, Shayla Thompson, Gooding, Idaho, Anne (Brent) Nichols, Pocatello, Idaho, Wendy Thompson, Twin Falls, Christina (Brad) McMullen and great nieces Taylor and Evie Taylor, Twin Falls, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Kade Thompson, brother Barry Thompson and one great nephew.

The Celebration of Life will be held at 606 3rd Avenue West, Gooding, Idaho at 4:00pm on Saturday, October 3, 2020 followed by a Dutch Oven Memorial Dinner, one of his many passions.
