Arthur Espinoza, 90, of Wendell, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at his home.
Art was loved by everyone that knew him. He was always ready to share a story on his sundeck over a glass of iced tea. He had the incredible talent of working a joke into any (and every) conversation. He was happiest when all his family was gathered around him.
Born in Lompoc, California in 1930, to Wilfreda and Enrique Espinoza. He grew up in Redondo Beach California where he graduated as a star athlete from Redondo Union High School in 1949. He then went on to play softball for the Navy for the next four years. He married LaVerda in 1951 and they had three children that they raised in Redondo Beach where he ended up being neighbors with his childhood and life-long friend Donny Hand. In 1982, he and LaVerda moved to Wendell, Idaho where he spent the rest of his years surrounded by much of his family.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, LaVerda Espinoza; his three children Marty Espinoza (Debbie), Marina Barr (Dennis), Lisa Espinoza (Colin); six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; his brother Daniel Espinoza (Patty), his brother Ector Espinoza (Judy Ann); as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters Eloise Valenzuela, Aurora Ybarra and Delores Lafarga.
As per his request, there will be no services held. However, please post your favorite joke of Art’s or memory in the comments. The poem below was one of his favorites to recite.
I woke early one morning,
The earth lay cool and still
When suddenly a tiny bird
Perched on my windowsill.
He sang a song so lovely
So carefree and so gay
That slowly all my troubles
Began to slip away.
He sang of far-off places
Of laughter and of fun
It seemed his very trilling
Brought up the morning sun.
I stirred beneath the covers
Crept slowly out of bed
And gently lowered the window
And crushed his ******* head.
