Barbara "Nicole" Barker, born February 18th, 1982 in Miami Florida, was a cherished mother, sister, daughter, friend, and wife. She was known for her kind, loving, caring, and humorous personality and she left us all too soon on September 18th, 2024.
Nicole was survived by her mother - Peggy Moon; her two sisters - Roxian Rosel (30) and Rubyan Rosel (29); her brother - Bradley Keller; her four daughters - Madison Whatley (26), Samantha Knigge (24), Alexis Harris (20), Mia Barker (15), and her two sons - Tre Barker (18) and Dru Barker (16). She leaves behind a legacy of love for her beautiful 6 grandchildren, in order of age - Hennesea Phillips (8), Greyson Smart (6), Colten Knigge (4), Esmerae Whatley (3), Caelan Knigge (3), Knoxtyn Whatley (2), and holds in her heart an angel baby whom she now holds in heaven.
Nicole was not only survived by but, inspired by, the life and love she shared with her best friend, soul mate, and husband - Scott Barker. Their love was nothing less than fate, transcended through life events and trials that brought them together. Their love was and will always be a beautiful testament to how God really does know what he is doing. Her departure from this world leaves an unfillable void in all of our lives.
One of Nicole's most commendable accomplishments was achieving 10 years of sobriety. She had spent years in and out of prison, on and off of drugs, and went from feeling like a woman anchored in anger to feeling an immensely deep joy, an indestructible faith in herself, others, and God; she was using her mess to send a message to the world; love and joy are obtainable if you can just forgive yourself for being imperfect and extending that forgiveness to those around you. She set her heart on inspiring others, before her untimely death she was maintaining a social media platform of over 20k followers where she changed the lives of so many individuals with her commitment to her own truth. She also was a published author and she was extremely proud of that. She inspired many more with her testimony in these books, “She is Magic, Yes” and “Letters to Myself Volume 3: Addiction” and she will be appearing in an upcoming book called “Motherhood Unfiltered”. This will be in conjunction with the Extreme Excellence World Record project with a tentative release date of Mother’s Day in 2025.
Music was her love language, her solace, and her method of connecting with the world. She had a love for arts and crafts, journaling, creating scrap books, sewing blankets, the autumn season, and was an over all, extremely creative spirit. Nicole was known for living her life keeping the presence and memory of her late father - Antonio Badia (53), alive. He passed away in July of 2003 and she was never the same. In her last years of life, she had found some peace in his absence by filling her life with his essence in the form of her sisters, children, grand babies, music, staying sober, helping others, her love for her husband, and in each laugh that erupted from her. His soul was one with hers and we can all find a little peace knowing she can now, at last, be with her daddy.
A celebration of life for Nicole is still being determined and will be shared with the close friends and family of this beautiful soul soon. She will forever be remembered for her vibrant smile, her humor, her excessive use of the F word, her love of all things Scentsy, and for her extremely beautiful heart. She was so talented and finding just the right words to heal someone’s broken heart. She never wanted to see someone hurting. Any chance she got she made an effort to help someone with their recovery or whatever was happening in their life. She will truly be loved and missed by everyone she loved and by those she inspired and helped.
