Beverly Ann (VanStone) Gaskill

     Beverly Ann VanStone Gaskill, 89, of Fairfield, died 29 July 2020 at Bennett Hills Rehab and Care Center in Gooding. 

     She was born in Shongo, New York on 6 December 1930, the only child of Herbert and Marjorie Johnston VanStone. 

     She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1947 and was immediately employed by The First National Trust Company where she worked for more than 7 years.  In 1955 she met and married John L. Gaskill in Shongo and the honeymoon was spent traveling to Fairfield, Idaho where they made their home.  Their only child, Roxane, was born later that year.  Bev was house wife and mother until 1968 when she went to work as Clerk for the Camas Co. School District.  Anyone who knew her knows that she really enjoyed (most of the time!) that job.  She loved being around the kids, young and old.  So much so that after a hemorrhagic stroke prevented her from doing the office work after 24 years, she still continued to volunteer in the school office for several more years.  She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for some time.  She also served on the library board starting in 1976 for 10 years.  She and John manned the Caboose Tourist Info Center as well in past years.

     Beverly loved beer, reading, pizza, wrestling, baseball and cats, not necessarily in that order.  Friends often contributed to her cat addiction as is evidenced by her famous collection of cat mugs.  One learned to not call or try to make conversation on Monday nights when wrestling was on TV.  And as for reading, she often said if you had a book, you were never alone.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son in law, Mel Olson. 

     She is survived by her daughter, her three house cats (Mr. Favor, Sammy and Smudge), numerous semi feral cats who she has fed forever, and her current grand dogs (Rowan and Franny)

     Thanks to her caregivers...those who helped her at home for several years and those who have cared for her during the last year.

     There will be a short service of some music and memories at the grave site.  Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding at 11:00 am on Thursday the 6 August 2020.  Per Beverly's request, there will be no public viewing.
