Carol Smith Obituary

With heavy hearts, we share the peaceful passing of Carol Jean Smith, on September 28, 2025 at 83 years old. She was the heart of our family—whose love and guidance shaped us all. Though we mourn her loss deeply, we take comfort in the countless memories and enduring legacy of love she leaves behind.

Carol loved the simple country life, a joy she carried from her childhood riding her beloved horse, Star. She was a lifelong adventurer, finding delight in card games at the senior center, friendly competition in her bowling leagues, and sharing her time and wisdom with 4H.

Carol was born on November 9, 1941, in Gooding, Idaho, to Jessie and Laurence Renner. She was raised in Gooding, attending school there and proudly graduating from her hometown. Carol had a remarkable way of knowing everyone in Gooding, their families, and even where they lived, reflecting her warm, connected spirit and love for her community.

Carol married the love of her life, David Smith on June 4, 1971. Carol and David spent 52 years immersed in the rhythms of farm life, traveling together to bull sales, hosting Farm Bureau meetings, and sharing the work and joys of the land. Their days were filled with purpose, laughter, and a deep connection to their community. Whether tending the fields, welcoming neighbors, or supporting local agriculture, they demonstrated dedication, hospitality, and a love for the meaningful life on the farm.

Carol found joy in life’s simple pleasures—a delicious homemade meal, a cute pair of earrings or a new blouse, a captivating love story, a lively game of pinochle, and, above all, time spent with her cherished grandchildren. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit were felt by everyone fortunate enough to know her, leaving a lasting impression of love and joy wherever she went.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and memories that will be treasured forever. They live on in our hearts and in the stories, we’ll keep telling. While today we feel the ache of loss, we also hold on to gratitude—for the gift of having known Carol, for the lessons she gave us, and for the love that will never leave us.

She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.

Carol is survived by: her son - Farrol Renner; brother - John Renner; sister-in-law - Donna Bennett; her grandchildren; and several great grandchildren; and a growing list of great-great grandchildren.

Carol is preceded in death by: her loving husband - David Smith, of 52 years; parents - Jessie and Laurence Renner; daughters - Connie and Cheryl; sister-in-law - Leslie Renner; brother-in-law - George Bennett; and several aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Demaray’s Gooding Chapel.

A service honoring Carol will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Demaray Gooding Chapel.

Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding.
