Donna Joyce Goe Hibbard, 87, of Shoshone, Idaho, returned to her heavenly home early in the morning of Monday, January 3, 2022.
Donna was born on March 18, 1934, in Poplar, Idaho, to William Henry Goe and Edith Page. She was the 3rd of 6 children and grew up on a farm in Mud Lake, Idaho. In 1952, she graduated as valedictorian from Roberts High School and then graduated from Ricks College with a bachelor’s degree in teaching. She taught home economics in Shelley, Bonneville County, Hagerman, and Hailey, Idaho. Teaching the gospel to others and her family was a big part of her life, and she served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the West German/Central German mission.
While she was teaching at the Wood River High School in Hailey, she met Gary Hibbard through a mutual friend. After a brief courtship, they were married on July 2, 1966, in Hailey, Idaho. In 7 years, 1 son and 5 daughters came to their family, and they were sealed together in the Idaho Falls Idaho temple on February 6, 1974. Being close in age and working on the farm together created a very tight-knit family that loves working, playing, and laughing together. Family was very important to Donna, and she loved their annual family reunions and traveling with Gary. Reading, family history, drinking Coke, and gardening were some of her favorite pastimes. She was quiet and soft-spoken but had a quick wit. Serving others was a big part of her life, and she served in many church callings and as a Shoshone school board member and chairman. Working hard and putting the needs of others before herself earned her the nickname The Martyr from her children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gene, and her sister Shirley.
She is survived by her husband Gary, sisters Joan Goe and Dianne (David Walker), brother Ken Goe, son John (Tammy Day), and daughters Julie (Burke Bennett), Cary (Derik Hubert), Jacqueline (Steve McKinney), Angela (James Hogg), and Suzanne (Glade Prestwich), 31 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Her family always loved her cooking and just spending time with her. Her warm, loving spirit and listening ear will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held at the Shoshone L.D.S. Chapel (505 North Greenwood Street) on Monday, January 10, 2022, at 12:00 PM with a visitation that morning from 10:00 - 11:45 AM.
Burial will be Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery.
Funeral services are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Shoshone Chapel.
