Gary Lowell Hoyt

     Gary Lowell Hoyt, 82, a resident of Gooding, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026 at his home in Gooding.

     Gary was born on January 3, 1944 in Gooding Idaho.  He was the third child and only son of Faye C. Hoyt and Georgia A. Hoyt.

     Gary joined the U.S. Navy after his junior year in high school; he went through basic training in San Diego California, and on to advanced training in communications in Pensacola Florida before being assigned to the Mediterranean, serving on bases in Turkey and Cyprus.

     Gary returned to the States after his time in the Navy and married Cheryl Lee Ferguson on June 19, 1965 in Elko Nevada.  Gary and Cheryl lived in Twin Falls, Idaho where he had a job building custom gun stocks for Herrett’s. They then spent a short time living in Olympia, Washington before returning to Idaho, moving to Boise where Gary had a job as an outside sales representative for R &S beauty supply.

     Gary and Cheryl welcomed their first son Robert Alexander Hoyt on July 22, 1969.  As always, they kept striving for perfection, and achieved it on October 3, 1972 with the arrival of their second son Russell Wayne Hoyt.  Shortly after they moved their small family to Gooding, Idaho, where Gary was in a partnership at the Chevron service station before taking a job at the local Ford dealership.

     In 1976, Gary got a job at the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind where he spent the next 31 years as a mechanic, until his retirement in March of 2007.

     Gary spent his retirement years enjoying a plethora of hobbies including gardening, wood working, hunting, and fishing. Gary also enjoyed tinkering on and repairing almost anything under the sun in his shop, and sharpening every knife he could get his hands on into a razor-like, precision surgical instrument (also getting a few stitches along the way). Gary bought a Harley Davidson motorcycle in 2003 and loved riding it all over the country, from several trips to Sturgis South Dakota, to a solo ride from Yuma Arizona and back to his home in Gooding.

     As he had for many years, Gary enjoyed his time at the local coffee shop, whether it was the Lincoln Inn, the China House, or the Stampede Burger. Gary loved sitting with his friend’s sipping coffee, catching up on the local news, and solving the world’s problems. He kept doing this up until the very end. It was that special to him.

     Most of all, Gary loved his family: Rob and April, grandchildren Crystal, Alexela, and Jaxon, and great grand-daughter Sile; Russ and Heather, and grandson Ashton; and the love of his life, Cheryl.

     Dad will forever be in our hearts.  Ride on papa, keep the shiny side up!

     A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel.  Services will conclude at the Chapel.

     A private family burial will take place at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding.
