Georgia Sexton Obituary

Georgia Joyce Sexton left us to join her husband, John Henry “Hank” Sexton, on May 5, 2020 in heaven on their grandest adventure together.

Georgia was born on October 26, 1929 in Oakland, CA to Carl and Ruth Lobsien. She was the third of four children. Due to the depression the family moved to the Lobsien family farm near Artois, CA when Georgia was four years old. She learned how to milk cows, feed chickens and tend to the garden from a young age. She enjoyed horseback riding, playing baseball, snow skiing and pulling pranks on her brothers and sister. She talked so fondly of her childhood.

Georgia graduated from Chico State University with a bachelor’s degree in teaching. For five years she was the teacher and principal of the one room school in Afton, CA. She enjoyed square dancing where she met, Hank Sexton, the love of her life. They were married June 1, 1957. That was the beginning of many great adventures together.

The couple settled down on the Sexton Ranch, Stone Valley Ranch, located west of Willows, CA. They raised three children; Sherry, John Richard “Dick”, and Patti. Georgia, with a heart of gold, a child-like curiosity and the wisdom of a teacher, was an excellent mom and role model.

Hank and Georgia’s love of adventure and exploration prompted many family summer camping trips, exploring the Western U.S., following small dirt roads.

In 1989, upon retiring from ranching, the couple moved to Raton, NM. There, they devoted even more time to exploring. They loved the rich history of the American South-West and collected Native American art work. They were members of the Branson Hiking Club.

In 2006 they moved once again; this time closer to family. At first dividing their time between Patti’s place near Orland, CA and Sherry and husband Monte’s cow camp near Fairfield, ID, before deciding to move near Bliss, ID to Sherry and Monte’s home ranch. There they continued their exploration of places off the beaten path, until Hank embarked on his final grand adventure, leaving the family November 27, 2013.

Georgia is survived by her three children, Sherry (Monte) Funkhouser of Bliss, ID, John Richard “Dick” Sexton of Haines, OR, and Patti Sexton of Bliss, ID. Her brothers Carl (Ellen) Lobsien of Capay, CA and Ron (Sandra) Lobsien of Forrest Hill, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband John Henry “Hank” Sexton, her parents Carl and Ruth Lobsien, and her sister Lois (Lorence) Kaiser of Glenn, CA.

Georgia leaves behind six grandchildren, John (Jenn) Hobbs, Brian (Jaime) Hobbs, Ashly Hankins, Colt Spencer, Samantha Sexton and Jake Sexton, along with eight great grandchildren.

Georgia always had a beautiful yard, vegetable garden and green house. She enjoyed raising bummer lambs, goats and chickens. Georgia’s favorite saying was “If you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything.”

Even though she faced cancer in her final year, she did so with grace and bravery; positive, quick-witted, and smiling through her final days passing away peacefully at her home. She is so missed, but will never be forgotten.
