Gloria Joy (Hine) Gilbert

    Gloria Joy Gilbert, 91, a long-time resident of Wendell, Idaho, passed away peacefully in her home on June 10, 2022.

    Gloria was born December 27, 1930 in Twin Fall, Idaho.

   Gloria was an amazing woman who set out to bring joy to the world which is appropriate as she was born at Christmas time.

   She would start her day with a bit of coffee in her cream, reading the paper, (especially the obituaries) while working on her crossword puzzle.  Gloria had quite the sense of humor, which was her strong suit. She enjoyed writing letters, poems, thank you cards and never missed the chance to send out birthday cards. She was an avid reader.  Gloria loved the outdoors, loved to go fishing and swimming.  She was a Cub Scout leader, worked with the P.T.A. and was an amazing seamstress.

   Gloria spent a good part of her life cooking and managing restaurants. She cooked for the hospitals in Jerome, Wendell, the Magic Valley Manor, the Y-Inn in Bliss, cafes in Wendell and Magic Reservoir.  Later on, she was Dale’s right hand man in the pump business helping him to pull and install pumps.

   She loved and fiercely protected any animal that came her way.  She raised baby calves and had many dogs and cats throughout the years. There were no strays once they came to her door. She enjoyed planting flowers and bushes around the house.

   She was always there for her family, loving her children and grandchildren.  Her crazy sense of humor will never be forgotten, and will be remembered and carried on in her children.

   Gloria is survived by: her husband - Dale E. Gilbert of Wendell, Idaho; her children – Cathy Gilbert (Wendell Johnson) of Richfield, Idaho; Debi Gilbert (Scott Kegelman) of New York; Steve (Kathy) Gilbert of Jerome, Idaho; and Tammy Gilbert (Arthur Tunik) of San Francisco, California; 6 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters.

   She was preceded in death by: her parents; a sister; and a daughter.

    A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Wendell Cemetery.

    Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Wendell Chapel.
