Jackie Barnhart Obituary

Jackie “Jack” Dwight Barnhart, 94, of Hagerman, Idaho, passed away of natural causes on October 10, 2025, in Hagerman.

He was born on May 10, 1931, in Plato, Missouri, the son of Cecil and Viola Barnhart.

Jack spent his younger years helping provide for his family by hunting and chopping wood daily, hard work that built the lifelong work ethic he was known for. After his adolescent years, he joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and proudly served his country during the Korean War. While in Korea, he learned to operate a crane and helped keep vital roads open during combat.

Following his military service, he married the love of his life - Iva Jean Moses, on November 22, 1953. She had been faithfully waiting for his return, and together they began building a beautiful life and family. Jack was an auto and diesel mechanic by trade, but an adventurer at heart. His wandering spirit kept his family on the move, always seeking their next endeavor.

He had a lifelong love for the great outdoors, especially fishing, which ultimately led him to settle in Idaho. Jack could out-fish anyone around and was known as a true “fish whisperer.” If you were lucky, he might share one or two of his fishing secrets. Over the years, he passed his knowledge down to many, and a few special ones will carry on his fishing legacy.

Jack was known for his big heart and wonderful sense of humor, which blessed everyone who knew him. If you were one of his daughters or granddaughters, you were always greeted with, “Hi, pretty girl.” He loved to sing old-timer tunes and tell stories of the “good ol’ days," which almost always included a fishing tale or two.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brothers - Donald Barnhart, Ronnie Barnhart, Jerry Barnhart, and Butch Cummins; his sisters - Jeanne Stark and Colleen Barnhart; his daughter - Beverly Kay Setzer; granddaughter - Jill Karafa Gelever; great-grandson - Austin Pendergrass; and great-great-granddaughter - River Jean Utech.

He is survived by his beloved wife - Iva Jean; his brother - Jimmy Barnhart and wife - Sandy of Minnesota; his sister - Sandra (Cummins) Giardina and husband - Joseph of New York; his brother - Duane Barnhart and wife - Angie of Minnesota; his daughter - Carolyn Bloxham of Idaho; his son - Jack Stanley Barnhart and wife - Sheery of Idaho; his son - Justin Wayne Barnhart and wife - Shelly of South Dakota; his daughter - Regina Mae Jones of Tennessee; and his adopted daughter / granddaughter - Emily Jean Barnhart of Idaho.

Jack was blessed with a beautiful passel of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren—each one carrying a piece of his humor, spirit, and love.
