Jean Chatterton, 92, a resident of Shoshone, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 24, 2024.
Jean was born to Ward Merrill and Hazel Ray in Buhl, Idaho on February 11, 1932; she was the second daughter born after Ida and her brother, Ward. She was raised by her stepfather, Marston Campbell, whom she dearly loved.
She graduated from Buhl High School in 1951. This is where she met the love of her life, Dale Chatterton. They were married on January 7, 1952, before Dale went to San Diego to enlist in the Navy.
While Dale was in the service, Jean gave birth to their daughter, Marshel on March 24, 1953.Their son, Stephen, was born on February 21, 1955, in Moscow, Idaho where they had moved for Dale to attend the University of Idaho.
Jean made Shoshone, Idaho her home in 1959, where she dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker. Her love of nature was evident in her meticulously maintained flower gardens. Her flowers attracted butterflies and hummingbirds, two of her favorite things. Jean was also involved in local activities, joining bowling teams and card clubs, and was a valued member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Jean is survived by her daughter Marshel of Hansen, Idaho; daughter-in-law Deb Chatterton of Wendell, Idaho; Four grandchildren (her toads), Danielle Larson of Twin Falls, Idaho; Stephanie Chatterton of Wendell, Idaho; Nicholas Larson of Twin Falls, Idaho; Sasha Lozada of Twin Falls, Idaho. Eight great-grandchildren, Noah Larson of Twin Falls, Idaho; Jairett Major of Twin Falls, Idaho; Taven Lozada and Sophia Lozada of Twin Falls, Idaho; Jaissa and Jairrehn of Twin Falls, Idaho; Wyatt Newsome and Kaden Larson of Hansen, Idaho. Jean is also survived by her nephew Tommy and niece Dana.
Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dale; their son, Stephen; and her family members.
As per Jean’s wishes, a family ceremony will be held at a later date.
