John Melton Obituary

John Melton, 79, a resident of Eden, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center.

John M. Melton, was born on January 27, 1945 in Three Rivers, TX, the son of George and Elsie Mae Schaas Melton.

He was raised and educated in Three Rivers, TX, where he participated in all sports. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in Fairbanks, AK, working in the Military Police. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post #0082.

He married Dixie Lee Higley on October 5, 1967 in Fairbanks, AK. He was working with the City Police and Dixie also worked with the Fairbanks City Police.

He was an amazing husband and father who dedicated his life to taking care of his family. He enjoyed traveling and fishing in his spare time. He enjoyed spending time with his family and siblings. He was a wealthy man with the family he came from and the one he married into. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife - Dixie of 57 years; son - Brett Melton of Hazelton, ID; brother-Lynn (Tami) Melton of Heyburn, ID; sisters- Janette (Bill) Clark of Big Springs, TX, Betty Mae (Arvil) Shipman of Camp Wood, TX, and Joyce Steele of Kerrville, TX; and a daughter-in-law – Valerie Mills.

He is preceded in death by his son - Kent in May of 2024; a baby that passed away at birth in 1975; and his sister - Mary Ables.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 11:00 am at Demaray Funeral Service - Gooding Chapel.  Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding.
