John "Whitey" Lewis Obituary

John Brent "Whitey" Lewis, 82, a resident of Jerome, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 25, 2025 in Jerome, Idaho.

Whitey was born on November 12, 1943 in Soda Springs, Idaho, the son of Elmer “Whitey” Lewis and Margie (Bunn) Lewis. He was raised and educated in Soda Springs and graduated from Soda Springs High School in 1962. He joined the Army National Guard in 1964 and served for six years.

He married Connie Jean Weighall in March of 1966 and had three children- Brenda (Vic) Alftin, Michael (Kym Son) Lewis, and Korena (Casey) Moreland. They divorced in 1991. He then married his “Sweetie” Shalila Lillywhite in June of 1993 until his passing.  She had three children from a previous marriage - TJ Hymas, Derek Hymas, and Jamie Hymas.

Whitey enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed horse racing, car racing and all sports.

He is survived by wife, Shalila; three sons – Michael (Kym Son) Lewis of Wendell, Idaho, TJ Hymas of Montpelier, Idaho, and Derek Hymas of Pennsylvania; three daughters - Brenda (Vic) Alftin of Jerome, Idaho, Korena (Casey) Moreland of Bancroft, Idaho, and Jamie Hymas of Pocatello, Idaho; 19 grandchildren, 20 plus great grandchildren and one niece.

He is preceded in death by his parents - Elmer and Margie; two sisters - Nadee Lewis (died in infancy) and Audrey Valentine; one grandson - Benji Lewis; and father-in-law - Jim Lillywhite.

The family would like to thank St. Luke’s Hospice for their fabulous care.

Inurnment will take place at a later date in Paris, Idaho.
