Julian Ralph Maule, 95, a resident of Bellevue, and formerly of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Ketchum.
Julian was born on May 14, 1929 in Lynn, Massachusetts, the son of Julian and Agnes Maule. He went to Lynn English High but left school early to join the Army Airforce. Before he joined, he had a short modeling career. Quite a handsome guy.
Julian was stationed in Alaska at Elmendorf Airforce Base. He met Catherine Machienci before he left for Alaska and when he could he went back to Massachusetts to see Catherine. They eloped and he returned to Alaska with Catherine.
They had four children, Suzanne Kay, Julie Ann and Daniel Jay, about 16 years later they had Catherine Frances or Cathy.
After Julian was honorably discharged from the Army and living in Anchorage, he bought some land in Girdwood, AK with dreams of building a restaurant/bar with cabins to rent to skiers, locals etc. A group of good friends helped him build that establishment. It was called the DBL Musky Inn and is still in business today. During the summer months he fished commercially out of Whittier in the Prince William Sound.
Many years later after Cathy was killed by a drunk driver, they sold the business and went their separate ways.
Julian was very much a people person. A social dragonfly, butterfly sounds too feminine. He loved his friends and he loved adventure. He really had some stories to say and told them until the day he died.
Julian was is survived by his oldest daughter, Suzanne Maule McCartney; his two grandsons, Daniel and Ricardo (Julie’s kids), and Danielle Maule (Danny’s child).
Suzanne took care of Julian the last eight years of his life, and she says no matter what care facility or hospital he was in, everyone loved him.
