Karl Douglas Wennstrom 75, of Boise, ID passed away on December 19, 2023, from a massive heart attack.
Karl was born July 16, 1948, to Bob and Norma Wennstrom in Gooding, ID where he was reared and educated. He was the 2nd son of 4 sons. He graduated from Gooding High School. Growing up, Karl looked forward to pheasant hunting with his dad, brothers, his uncle Max, and cousins Frank and John. Karl was drafted into the Marine Corp in 1969 and served in Vietnam as a Corporal. He earned the Rifle Sharpshooter badge and the RVN Cross of Gallantry.
Karl attended Boise State University, graduating in 1978 with an Associate of Applied Science in Machine Shop. Karl worked for the Bureau of Land Management as a fire fighter, and he was asbestos inspector who traveled to Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and other states to survey and inspect buildings for asbestos containing materials. If required, he would recommend abatement or demolition work to be scheduled; not a healthy job back in the ‘80’s!
Karl was an accomplished and gifted artist. He loved the Idaho mountains and scenery. His oil paintings represent his love of Idaho. He was always proud to be a native Idahoan.
Karl, along with his dad, brothers, and friends worked on anything that had an engine! Motorcycles, cars, trucks, Chevys, Nomads. He always had the energy to find the next project, or the next project found him. Having an artistic personality, Karl had a special relationship with his cousin Matt Whitlock. Karl also helped design guitars with a local guitar maker, back in the day.
Karl is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Keith, Kent and Kim, and niece Jill Wennstrom. He is survived by his uncle Douglas Goransson, cousins Barbara Goransson-Eurich, William Goransson, JoAnne Pahwul, Charlene Doshas, Frank Wennstrom, John Wennstrom, and Janie (Vic) Wennstrom-Clapp, and extended cousins. Karl's ashes will be laid to rest in the family plot amongst his family in the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding, under the direction of Demaray’s Funeral Service.
