Kathleen Kingsley Obituary

Kathleen Louise Kingsley (Burkett) was born October 18,  1946 in Gooding, Idaho, and passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025 in her hometown of Shoshone, Idaho.

Kathy was a cancer survivor and was in a car accident that left her being in Salt Lake hospitals for over a year and even then, they said she would never walk or be able to function and teach again. Never Say Never to Kathy!

Kathy’s life was a story of vibrance and perseverance. She grew up in Shoshone, Idaho, and attended the University of Idaho, her alma mater. Kathy worked as an assessor in Shoshone and moved on to her passion in Education while working her way through school as a chef at the Alpha Phi sorority house in Moscow, Idaho. She loved the theater and wrote many plays and books throughout her life. Her other passion was being a blackjack dealer in Jackpot, Nevada. She did this for over 20 years, and she then returned to school and received her double Master's degrees in education and started teaching in Richfield, Idaho, and Wells, Nevada. She substituted in both Idaho and Nevada as well, even after the accident. Her other major accomplishment was running for Idaho State Senate and she only missed by 218 votes!

Grandma Kathy was very family orientated and the love she showed for her family was way Beyond Compare. She tried, at one point or another, to keep her grandbabies by her side and make sure they were taken care of. She was the greatest Mom and Grandma and always involved in one way or another by coaching, encouraging and loving all of us.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents Roy (Wally) and Francis Burkett, her brother Gary, and her daughter Elizabeth. She is survived by her grandchildren Christopher, Jeremy, Stacy, Nina, Juan and Angel. Kathy has five great grandchildren that sparkled in her life (and more to come). She is also survived by her daughter Amy Bates and her sister Kristy.

Kathy will be laid to rest with her daughter Elizabeth in Shoshone, Idaho. A graveside memorial service will be held May 4, at 1 PM at the Shoshone Cemetery.  Dinner will follow at the Mandarin House restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, at 2:30 PM.

Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service - Shoshone Chapel.
