Kent Thommen Wokersien, 91, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
Kent was born on June 25, 1934, in Fairfield, Idaho, to Thomas and Margaritha Wokersien. He grew up in Fairfield, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling in the beautiful Camas Prairie and Soldier Mountains.
In 1954, Kent married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Davis, and together they shared more than 69 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and adventure. After earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, Kent and Mary Lou began their life together in Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, and Kansas before returning to Idaho in 1968. They planted deep roots in Twin Falls, where they raised their five children: Kathy, Maria, Betsy, Jeff, and Carolyn.
Kent spent the majority of his career with K & T Steel Corp, where his work left a lasting mark on the community. Among his many projects, he was especially proud of helping design the bridge in Lower Stanley, Idaho.
A man of many talents, Kent didn’t know a stranger and was known as a gifted storyteller with a deep knowledge of Fairfield and Camas County history. He was also a brilliant musician, beginning piano at the age of 9 and later playing the organ, accordion, ukulele, banjo, and even his homemade washtub bass. His love of music brought joy to those around him.
In retirement, Kent and Mary Lou cherished their time at their cabin property in Fairfield. Together they enjoyed long drives through the mountains, watching wildlife, and welcoming family and friends to their treasured retreat. Kent’s many hobbies included raising pack goats, caring for beloved pets, brewing his own beer, wine, and spirits, and crafting walking sticks. Yet above all, his greatest joy was simply being surrounded by his loved ones.
Kent was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Lou, his parents Thomas and Margaritha, his brothers Jim and Thomas, and his grandson Justin Watson. He is survived by his five children Kathy (Andy) Cover, Maria (Randy) Watson, Betsy (Rod) Stephens, Jeff (Jenny) Wokersien, and Carolyn (Brad) McNew; his twelve grandchildren Tyler (Liana) Barron, Danielle Brierly Chavez, Travis Watson, Kim Stephens, Alex (Emily) Watson, Annie (Mason) Andes, Brandon (Larissa) McNew, Brady (Kylie) McNew, Haley (John) McKinnis, Colten McNew, Hunter (Ella) Wokersien, and Hattie Wokersien; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Canyons Retirement Community – Assisted Living for their love and care throughout Kent’s stay, and to Auburn Crest Home Health and Hospice for the compassion and support given to him in his final months.
A Mass will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church on Monday, September 1, 2025 at 11:00 am.
