LaVor R. Jackson, 87, of Hagerman, died October 27, 2021 at his home of natural causes. He was born Feb. 17, 1934, in Ogden, Utah, son of Ray LaVern Jackson and Fern Chadwick. He married Dorothy Mary Hasebrink on May 18, 1956, in Kanesville, Utah who preceded him in death on January 8, 1995. LaVor is also preceded in death by Rita Sligar, whom he married on July 22, 1996.
LaVor was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. LaVor enjoyed helping his children, vegetable gardening and watching bull riding and rodeos. The family moved to Hagerman from Roy, Utah, in March of 1980.
He was a true cowboy and a lifelong dairy farmer. He came from multiple generations of dairy farmers and had a passion for the animals on the farm. When he was young, he enjoyed chariot racing and bull riding in the rodeo. If you’re a big football fan, imagine loving the game ten times more than you do and that’s how much LaVor loved watching rodeos. On TV or in person, he was a huge fan of local and national rodeos.
LaVor was the family prankster; scaring, surprising us and joking around. Most of the children spent years recovering from all of his pranks. Firecrackers in the barn was his handiwork.
After Dorothy’s passing, LaVor became the center of the family by keeping family traditions alive. He baked and most importantly made all the Christmas candy to share with family and friends. The cookies and candy were excellent, but his English Toffee was unrivaled. One of our favorites was his Jell-O Salad he brought to various events. Everyone loved it and the bowl always came home empty!
He was old school but in the best ways; hardworking, neatly shaven, well dressed and family centered. He was accepting of people in all walks of life, gender and race. He was also open minded to new ideas even if he didn't quite understand them. LaVor was genuine to everyone in their own specific way. He took the time to know his grandchildren and expressing love for them in many special ways.
He is survived by his children, Kent (Jolene) Jackson of Layton, Utah, Brent (Rochele) Jackson of Clearfield, Utah, Craig Jackson, Anna Marie (Sam) Briggs of Hagerman, Idaho, Shanna Jackson of Ogden, Utah, Scott Jackson (Shane Mills) of Lima, Montana, Shayne (Vonia) Jackson of Twin Falls, Idaho, Tom (Phyllis) Vudhivadhana of Ogden, Utah, Gera (Rosario) Vudhiwat of Bedford, Texas; 24 Grandchildren; 49 Great-Grandchildren; two sisters, LaVern (Bob) Larkin of West Richland, Washington, Elaine (Tom) Udink of Plain City, Utah and all of his very good friends.
In addition to Dorothy and Rita, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Ann Jackson.
A private family celebration of his life was held at Demaray Funeral Service - Gooding Chapel.
Interment with dedication of his grave will be held on November 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Memorial Gardens of Wasatch in Ogden, Utah.
