Lorene Brannan Obituary

Zelma Lorene Dodson Brannan – June 18, 1930 – April 9, 2022

Lorene was born in Mountain Home, Arkansas to James Stanford Dodson and Ada Jane Marler Dodson. She was the first of six children.

She moved with her family to Yuba City, California when she was six years old.  She married Delmar Russell Brannan in Reno, Nevada on Sept. 6, 1947. Their first child was stillborn. They had four other children - Jim, Joann, Jane and Janet. Early home was in Challenge and Forbes Town, California. Later, they moved back to Yuba City for several years before moving to Idaho in 1967. They worked a small dairy in King Hill, Idaho for many years. Later, they ran the Hill Top Café on Sailor Creek and Bozo’s Café in Glenns Ferry, Idaho.

Mom was always a hard worker, having many part-time jobs throughout her lifetime that helped support her family. She loved being a grandmother and always enjoyed cooking for her family. She loved flowers and always had many house plants. She loved to sing and sang many solos in church during her years in Challenge. She was very artistic and loved to sketch scenery with friends in later years.

Mom and Dad were always helping others. Over the years, they took in many young people and helped them “get on their feet.”

Mom’s last years were spent in the loving care of the staff at Stonebridge Assisted Living in Hagerman. A special thank you to Cathy DeRuiter for her love and kindness to our mother. Also, we are so appreciative to Idaho Home Health and Hospice for their care in helping to keep our mother comfortable in her last days.

Mom was preceded in death by: her brother – Gerald; parents – James and Ada; son – James; husband – Delmar; sister – June; and nieces - Jerolyn and Theresa.

She is survived by: her brothers - Eudell (Billie) Dodson, Harold (Toni) Dodson and Larry (Capri) Dodson; her brother-in-law - Gene Shogren; three daughters - Joann (Ward) Rulien, Jane Allen and Janet Brannan; grandchildren - Jamie Brannan, Connie (Jason) Gamble, Paul Heath, Pam Heath, Heather Allen, Ward Rulien, Russell (Rocio) Allen and Katie Rulien; as well as 20 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel.
