Marjorie "Carol" Kunder Obituary

Marjorie Carol Kunder, 80, a resident of Wendell, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at her home in Wendell.

Marjorie Carol Strickland was born on November 22, 1944 in Wendell at St. Valentine’s Hospital, the daughter of Mark and Evelyn Strickland.  She joined three siblings who lived on the farm S.W. of Wendell.  Two more siblings came after her.

She was raised and educated in Wendell, where she attended first grade through eighth grade at Orchard Valley School three miles east of the farm.  She attended Wendell High School from 1960-1963. After graduating she attended a switchboard operating school.

Later she worked as a maid in Sun Valley, Idaho. She also babysat for Sun Valley tourists. One family took her to California to become their children’s nanny.

It was at a Hollywood Bowl event that her motorbike had tipped over and collided with someone else.  That was her first encounter with her life-long friend - Judith Richards Walher. They both worked for a floral shop for a while.

She and Judy moved back to Wendell, Idaho in 1965. She worked at a Clear Springs Fish Hatchery where she met Ron Kunder.   They were married on July 2, 1971 in Elko, Nevada.  They raised three children - Cindy, Kelly, and Kasey.

She was taught how to sew by her mother and was extremely gifted and excelled at it. She sewed numerous articles of clothing and made quilts for her family and friends. She loved music and played the piano and organ.  Her granddaughter loved to learn and play with her.  She loved putting jigsaw puzzles together and watching movies, so if you came to visit her you were drawn into a puzzle or movie.

She and her sister Ruby would purchase extra school supplies to make sure all the children in the family would be taken care of. She was full of character and life; an amazing person with a kind and giving soul.  She will be missed.

She is survived by: two sons – Kelly F. Kunder of Wendell and Kasey S. Kunder of Nyssa, Oregon; one daughter – Cindy J. Kunder Carter of Gooding; two brothers – Jerry Strickland and Herb Strickland, both of Wendell; one sister – Ruby Graves of Bliss; five grandchildren – Kayla Carter, Kerra Carter, Sarah Carter, Kadin Kunder and Karissa Kunder; and one great grandchild – Jameson Canales.

She was preceded in death by: her parents – Mark and Evelyn Stickland; sister– Pat Strickland and brother - Don Strickland; and her husband – Ron Kunder.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Wendell Cemetery in Wendell with Jackie Roberts officiating.

A celebration of life will be held following the graveside service at Cindy and Tim Carter's residence at 2070 East 1400 South in Gooding.
