Mark Warner Shaw, 80, a resident of Gooding, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at his home in Gooding.

Mark was born on February 15, 1944 in Whittier, California, the son of Paul Shaw and Pauline Brewster Shaw.

Mark was raised and educated in Whittier.  While growing up, he participated in Boy Scouts and enjoyed many hiking and camping trips.  At age 16, he joined the local volunteer fire department.  From an early age, he was fixing mechanical equipment and using small equipment to help others with landscaping projects.  He attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and graduated with honors in Mechanized Agriculture and Crop Production.  He next served in the Army as a heavy equipment operator stationed at Fort Leonard Wood and in Vietnam.  He began his farming career on his farm northwest of Gooding in 1969.

He married Arlene Beck on November 1, 1975 in Littleton, Colorado.  They had two children – Christine and Matthew. In 1984, they began building their super-insulated house, finally moving in six years later.  Mark took over his father’s macadamia nut cracking equipment manufacturing business in 1990. He sold equipment all over the world and continued production until recently.  Throughout his time in Gooding, he could be found volunteering at church and singing in choirs.  He frequently helped his neighbors with repairs.

Retiring in 2016, he and Arlene enjoyed travels in the motorhome visiting family and attending Caterpillar shows.  Mark also loved taking rides on steam locomotive trains, a lifetime passion for him.  His family has fond memories of camping trips in the Sawtooth Mountains and listening to him play his guitar.  He loved spending time with his six grandchildren, taking them on 4-wheeler rides and singing and playing his guitar for them.  He battled cancer in 2008 and again in 2021.  He was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in November of 2024.

Mark is survived by: his wife - Arlene Shaw of Gooding; his son – Matt (Nicole) Shaw of Truman, Minnesota; his daughter – Christine (Ben) Baird of Twin Falls; three sisters – Nancy (Mike) Kettle, Ellen (Ray) Albert and Sally (Gary) DuPont; six grandchildren – Isaiah Baird, Annalise Baird, Jamie Shaw, Ellie Shaw, Maggie Shaw and Lucy Shaw.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Paul and Pauline.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Gooding United Methodist Church in Gooding.

A private family burial will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding.

Funeral and cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s name to: Samaritan’s Purse.
