Melvin "Jay" Seamons Obituary

Melvin Jepsen Seamons, 100, a resident of Gooding, Idaho, passed away on November 11, 2025 at his home with family by his side.

He was born July 15, 1925 in Cleveland, Idaho to Melvin Henry Seamons and Leona Gertrude Jepsen.

Jay married the love of his life, Jean Peterson on December 21, 1943 at the Logan Utah L.D.S. Temple.  They were married 67 years before Jean’s passing in October 2011.

Jay loved life and worked hard at everything he done.  He served in the Navy during WW II in the Navy as a Radar Sonar Operator which was considered highly confidential.

He farmed, ran grain elevators, taught people farming in Libya.  Where ever he went his sweetheart was by his side.  Jay loved cows and enjoyed looking out his window and seeing a herd in the corral.  It didn’t matter how cold or hot he would be out feeding and talking to them.  He was able to have cows until he was 99 ½.

He was the greatest father to five children: Melvin Wayne (Kena) of St. George, Utah; Garth Jay (Dianna) of Rexburg; Marla Jean (Lyle) Sam of Battle Mountain, Nevada; Cheryl Ann Fritz of Mountain Home; and Blaine Clay (Sherrie) of LaPine, Oregon; 24 grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren – with more on the way.

Jay was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife – Jean; two brothers; one sister; two grandchildren – Melonie Danese Seamons and Glenn Jay Palmer; and daughter-in-law – Jeannine Seamons.

A special thank you to Lyle Paul Sam and Cheryl Ann Fritz for the loving care they gave to Jay so he was able to stay at home.

Jay loved adventure but his greatest journey just began.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 12:00 noon until 12:45 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hagerman with a funeral service to start at 1:00 pm.
