Mike Larson Obituary

Michael LaVon Ostermiller Larson, 63, a resident of Wendell, Idaho, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mike was born on November 17, 1956 in Rexburg, Idaho to Enith and LaVon Ostermiller and was later adopted by Marion George Larson.  He lived in Washington for a short time until the family moved home to St. Anthony, Idaho.  In 1973 they moved to Wendell where he remained the rest of his life.

Mike married the love of his life – Kathie Renee Jones on March 10, 1978 in Wendell.  From there they had five children – Amber, Benjamin, Cassi, Eric and Matthew.  They have fourteen grandchildren – Austin, Lynzee, Raliegh, Allexus, Jessica, Nicholas, Kourtney, Keanu, Kalani, Kye, Elisha, Zane, Tatiyiana, Allister, and one great grandchild on the way.

Mike worked several jobs while raising his family: Clear Springs Fish Hatchery; Blinco Meat Packing; Goedhart Dairy; and his most recent and favorite job was at Vanderham Brothers Dairy until he could no longer work.

Mike enjoyed many things in life: softball, bowling, fishing, camping, but most of all his family.  One of the things he looked forward to the most every year was going to the Ostermiller family reunion.  His kids knew how important this was to him so it was just a known fact they all needed to be there so he could brag about them.  He loved his kids so much, but the love he had for his grandchildren was indescribable.  They each have their own special bond and things they did with him or for him.  The grandkids still argue to this day who is actually grandpa’s favorite.

Mike loved life and everything in it from family, friends, work, to God.  He touched so many people’s lives in his time here on Earth as did many to him.  He was always a strong fighter for what he believed in and fought hard until the very end.  He will be missed dearly.

Mike was preceded in death by – LaVon Ostermiller, George Larson, Leona Atwood and many other loved family members.

Mike is survived by: his loving wife – Kathie Larson; his mother – Enith Larson of Wendell; brother – Todd Larson of Wendell; three sisters – Tana Larson of Gooding, Chelle (Rob) Castle of Wendell and Pamela Thornton of Wendell; his five children – Amber (Brent) Blackwell, Benjamin (Amanda) Larson, Cassi (Shane) Hohnhorst, Matthew (Bobbi) Larson, all of Twin Falls and Eric Larson of Wendell.  His fourteen grandchildren – Austin and Lynzee Blackwell, Raliegh and Allexus Larson, Jessica, Nicholas and Kourtney Hohnhorst, Keanu, Kalani and Kye Larson, Elisha Morris, Zane Larson, Tatiyiana and Allister Brown; and many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to thank all who helped Mike between support, friendship and rides back and forth to his appointments.  A special thank you to St. Luke’s MSTI, Harrison Hope Hospice and Aunt Verline Lee and Aunt Mary Brownlee for you continued support and dedication.

A family graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at the Wendell Cemetery in Wendell.
