“Sonny” Orville J. Henry, Jr., a resident of Wendell, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at St. Luke's Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho, just one month shy of his 79th Birthday.
Sonny was born February 25, 1947 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the son of Orville Henry and Verneta Buntin Henry. He was raised and educated in Wendell, Idaho. He graduated from Wendell High School in 1965.
He married Andra Butler on May 16, 1969 in Gooding, Idaho. They had three children - Sharie, Andrew (Buzz) and Brad.
He served in the Idaho National Guard for 13 years and on the National Ski Patrol on Soldier Mountain for 14 years. He was also a volunteer fireman in Gooding and Wendell for 18 years.
He farmed for a few years, then worked at the bean warehouse and as a store clerk. Then ran his own company, Henry Concrete Construction, for many years. After leaving the concrete business, he became a certified building inspector where he served in Wendell and Jerome.
Sonny had many hobbies over the years, but they all involved going to the mountains. They included hunting, fishing, and archery shoots. He became a pilot, flew into back country, and camped many times. Most recently he did gold prospecting and belonged to GPAA and LDMA.
He was always a prankster, and in the last few years, loved to prank nurses where he was being cared for.
He is survived by his wife – Andra Henry; two sons – Andrew “Buzz” (Carol) Henry of Buhl, Idaho and Brad Henry of Wendell, Idaho; one daughter - Sharie (Jeff) Kinney of Marsing, Idaho; one brother - Alton Henry of Corvalis, Oregon; one sister - Susan Medford of Twin Falls, Idaho; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Orville Henry and Verneta Wisecaver.
His wish was to be cremated and have his ashes spread in the mountains he loved. This will take place at a later date when family gathers in the mountains.
Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service - Wendell Chapel.
