Paul Rose Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Danford Rose on December 5, 2023, in Gooding, Idaho.

Born on Independence Day in 1929 to Johnnie Noble Rose and Edna Viola Rose in New Lexington, Ohio, Paul's journey through life was marked by dedication, resilience, and a genuine passion for family, work, and community.

Paul's early years were shaped on a small farm in the woods of South Eastern Ohio, where he developed a love for hunting alongside his brother Eugene and found inspiration in the teachings of his favorite teacher, Mrs. Hill. A proud graduate of New Lexington Schools in 1946, Paul went on to serve his country in the Air Force, training as a diesel mechanic and forging lifelong friendships, notably with Bill Merrifield, the general's driver.

Stationed in Mtn. Home, Idaho, Paul met the love of his life, Rosa Lee Myers, whom he would later marry after his honorable discharge in 1950. Paul's professional journey led him to North American Rockwell in Columbus, Ohio, before returning to Idaho to join Rosa Lee's father, Tren, in the masonry business. Paul dedicated 35 years to the union, eventually taking over the company from his father-in-law, leaving a lasting legacy through the buildings and homes he constructed around the Magic Valley.

A man of diverse interests, Paul embraced the spirit of the West, attending rodeos and sharing his passion for the sport with his daughter Ann. From bowling leagues to golf courses, Paul's competitive spirit shone through, epitomized by his "Wayne Gretzky" swing on the golf course, where he reigned as the Gooding Golf Course champion for an impressive forty years.
In addition to his professional and recreational pursuits, Paul was a devoted GHS Booster, a familiar face on the bleachers, enthusiastically running the chains at football games and keeping stats at basketball matches. His unwavering support extended to his favorite sports teams, the Ohio State Buckeyes and BSU Broncos, reflecting his steadfast loyalty and love for the game.
Paul's honest, strong, and level-headed nature made him a formidable opponent in games of Rummikub, a skill he rarely relinquished. Beyond the competitive spirit, he found joy in the simple pleasures, relishing the timeless humor of Tom and Jerry cartoons.

Paul is preceded in death by: his parents - John and Edna; and his siblings - Genalee Pearson, Harold Eugene Rose, Howard Noble Rose, Betty Ruth Ferguson, Katherine Louise Conkle, Ralph Edward Rose, Edna Leanna Rose, and Melvin Ray Rose; as well as his beloved grandson - Ty Robert Vlaming.

He is survived by his cherished wife - Rosa Lee Rose; and their three children - Casey Rose, Ann Paulson (Richard), and Barbara Vlaming (Jon). Paul leaves behind a legacy in his six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Paul's life will take place on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the First Christian Church in Gooding, Idaho.  Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel.

Flowers and condolences may be sent to Demaray Funeral Home.

In honoring Paul's memory, let us remember a life well-lived, marked by love, resilience, and a legacy that will endure through the stories shared and the bonds forged.
