Tillie Slane passed away peacefully at her home October 20, 2025. She was a resident of Bliss, Idaho.
Tillie was born January 30, 1932, in Mountain Home, Idaho, the daughter of Andrew “Bryan” and Hilma Matilda Kelso of Hill City, Idaho. She was the second born of nine children.
A graduate of Albion State Normal School with a teaching degree, and a Master’s Degree from I.S.U. in Education.
Tillie taught first grade for 45 years in various places in Idaho. She always said she had to teach first grade for that long to figure out what she missed, because she never got to be in first grade herself.
On December 29, 1949, she married Keith Slane of Bliss, Idaho. They were married 38 years before Keith passed in 1987. They had one daughter, Nancy Lee Slane Miller (Harold), born in 1952.
Tillie and Keith enjoyed teaching together, fishing, hunting and especially spending the summer living at the Bonanza Guard Station where Keith worked for the Forest Service. They also raised cattle on their ranch in King Hill.
After retiring from teaching, they made their home in Bliss.
Tillie is survived by her son-in-law, Harold Miller of St. Anthony, Idaho; one grandson, Cole Miller of Denver, Colorado. Also, sister-in-law, Sherry Kelso of Bliss, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Everett “Lee” Kelso, John Edward Kelso, Joe Richard Kelso; sisters, Mary Ellen Bruno, Peggy Exon, Marjorie Miller, Blanch “Dutch” Harder, Evelyn “Dea Dea” Harwood, and her daughter, Nancy Slane Miller.
A viewing for Tillie will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Demaray Funeral Service - Gooding Chapel.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Hagerman Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at The American Legion Hall in Hagerman, Idaho.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of Demaray Funeral Service - Gooding Chapel.
