S.C. Buzz Peterson Obituary

Buzz Peterson, 84, of Fairfield, Idaho and Longmont, Colorado, passed away on January 20, 2025.

Born on May 14, 1940, he was the son of Cleo and Sybille Peterson.  He grew up in Carey at their home out Fishcreek, alongside his large family.

Always a cowboy at heart, his rodeo days started young and continued until he settled down with his wife – Carol Coffman on September 6, 1963.

His early work included – hay hauling, a stint at the INEEL in Arco, the cheese factory in Richfield, never shying away from a hard day’s labor to keep the family thriving.  With three children and a wife to support, he always managed to keep food on the table, even if it was a deer that he poached and some potatoes, he made sure they were never hungry, and full of love.

He guided in the Frank Church Wilderness for an outfitter and had numerous hunting stories as he searched for deer and elk.  His love for the mountains eventually led him to the Diamond Dragon Ranch south of Bellevue, where he secured a ranch management position for over 30 years.  As an avid bowhunter and with elk on a 2000-acre ranch this brought a bright smile to his face.

His children – Tom, Jamie and Teri, were his joy, as he helped Tom and Jamie in their high school Rodeo years.  He hazed for Jamie, and took him all over the country to steer wrestle.

He was an avid Boise State Football fan and always made sure he had the DVR on to record the games if he couldn’t watch when it was live.  A diehard Detroit Lions fan for over 50 years, he stuck with them no matter how much they lost.

His commitment to the Lord was a testament to his life, as a faithful servant.  He prayed every morning and his prayer list was long.  If you needed a strong intercessor, he was the man to call.

After the Diamond Dragon Ranch sold, he had an opportunity to move to Longmont, Colorado and raise a few cattle and enjoy a peaceful life.

A few paragraphs of writing do not do justice to this man that was loved by many.  He will remain in our hearts forever till that great day when we can join him in Heaven and what a glorious reunion that will be.

He is survived by: his wife – Carol Peterson of Longmont, Colorado; his daughter – Teri Seaquist of Fairfield; his daughter-in-law - Ann Peterson of Fairfield; three brothers - Greg (Amy) Peterson and Skip (Trudy) Peterson of Carey and Ronnie Peterson of Twin Falls; his sister – Judy Justensen of Rawlins, Wyoming; three grandchildren – Jarred (Becca) Peterson, Zach Peterson and Erick (Maddie) Peterson and three great grandchildren – Nora, Lane and Maverick.

He was preceded in death by: his sons – Jamie and Tom; brothers – Tom and Marty; his sister – Patricia Sparks; and his parents – Cleo and Sybille.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Mountain View Cemetery in Fairfield.
