Sharon Malicoat Obituary

Sharon Carol Malicoat, a beacon of love and kindness, was born on April 29, 1947, in Pittsburgh, California. She passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, in Gooding, Idaho, after a brave battle with ovarian cancer. Sharon's life spanned 78 years filled with cherished memories, unwavering love, and a legacy of compassion that will endure through her family and friends.

Sharon was the beloved daughter of James Malicoat and Ollie Malicoat (Hill). She grew up in a nurturing environment that instilled in her the values of generosity and kindness—qualities she carried throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother Gordon Malicoat, daughter Donna Mathis, and nephew James Malicoat each of whom she loved deeply.

On November 21, 1964, Sharon married Howard Leon Mathis in Clearlake Oaks, California. Through this union, she became the proud mother of two daughters, Terrie Marie and Donna Louise. The marriage dissolved 9 years later in July of 1973, but she always said the best thing she ever had she got from that union, her two daughters.

Sharon is survived by her daughter Terrie Bybee and son-in-law Larry Bybee, grandchildren: Christopher Lindsteadt, Erin Mathis, Amber Arwood, Glen Crispin, James Harper, and step granddaughter Natasha Scott, great grandchildren: Rylan Bays, Selah Crispin, Glen Crispin Jr., Vanessa Arwood, Ethan Arwood, and step great grandchildren MacKenzie and Kari Scott, as well as three lifetime best friends who she considered sisters Charlotte Sturges, Kathy Wilson, and Suzie Biggs. Each person held a special place in her heart, and her love for them was always unconditional.

Sharon's education was completed at Avenal High School in Avenal California, where she graduated in 1965. She later took a job in an optometrist office in Ukiah California and worked there for Dale Spencer OD for about 25 years. She moved to Missouri and later to Carson City, Nevada where she was an office manager until she retired. Sharon moved to Gooding in October of 2020 at the insistence of her daughter Terrie. Throughout her life, she was known for her giving nature, kind spirit, and loving demeanor. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and showered those around her with warmth and affection. She quickly made friends everywhere she went, and people always said how much they loved her. She was a kind and trusting soul who loved hugs, a good laugh, and heartfelt conversations.

Sharon always said she thought funerals were morbid and said she did not want one. Her request has been honored; however, her family has encouraged those that knew her to have their own private memorial to say goodbye.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Saint Luke's Cancer Institute or Visions Hospice in honor of Sharon's memory and the care she received during her illness.

As we remember Sharon, let us reflect on the countless lives she touched with her kindness and love. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of compassion that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Sharon Carol Malicoat will forever be missed but never forgotten. May she rest in peace.
