Stanley E. Strunk, 90, a resident of Shoshone, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Twin Falls Transitional Care.
He was born on May 7, 1934 in Shoshone, Idaho, the son of Tipp and Agnes Strunk. Stan was raised and educated in Shoshone and graduated in 1954.
He joined the Air force after graduation and was honorably discharged in 1956. He was a a jet mechanic, and received the National Defense Service Metal and the Good Conduct Metal. He served most of his time at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He met and married Maggie and they had one daughter, Kathryn Marie Sullivan. He worked for Boeing in Seattle, Washington. He moved back to Shoshone and divorced.
He later married Kathryn Campbell in 1959. They had two sons, Eugene Robert Strunk in 1961, and Stanley Thomas in 1964. He started working for the family business, Strunk’s Hardware, for many, many years. He knew everyone there and made numerous friends.
He loved the desert and spent many days rock hunting and had several gold claims in the Shoshone area. Lots of family memories were made hunting, fishing, and driving in the desert. His family always came first and Kathryn was definitely the love of his life, they were together for 64 wonderful years.
Stanley is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Marie Sullivan of Shoshone; two sons, Eugene Robert Strunk and Stanley Thomas Strunk of Shoshone; four grandchildren: Chauncey Brauburger, Dessa Hadzor, Denae Sullivan, and Stanley Sullivan; seven great grandchildren: Macheala Brauburger, Colton Brauburger, Raylee Matheny, Logan Matheny, Caitlynn Sullivan, Kenlee Hadzor, and Rylee Hadzor.
He is Preceded in death by his parents, Tipp and Agnes Strunk; brother, Robert Strunk; sisters, Lois Webb and Jeanett Robbins; and his wife, Kathryn Strunk.
A memorial service will be held at the Golden Years Senior Center in Shoshone on August 3, 2024 at 1 pm. A memorial graveside will be held on August 17, 2024 at 2pm at the Clayton Cemetery, in Clayton, Idaho.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shoshone’s Animal Shelter.
