Vernon John Mavencamp

     Vernon John Mavencamp, 100, a resident of Hagerman, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Twin Falls surrounded by his family.

     Vernon was born on April 4, 1926 in Saco, Montana to John and Harriet Mavencamp.  He was raised in Saco, Montana and Acequia, Idaho, where he graduated high school in 1943.

     After high school, he was in the shipyards in Washington State, when he was drafted into the Army during W.W. II.  He served his country in the Philippines.

     Vernon married Shirley Peterson on May 21, 1954, they raised four children together in Hagerman – Nancy Knott, John (Kristen Kline) Mavencamp, Fred (Mary) Mavencamp and Raymond (Lynetta) Mavencamp, all of Hagerman.

     Vernon served on the Hagerman School Board; and was a life-long member of the Lea Owsley Post #31 of the American Legion – serving as Commander for several years.

     Vernon is survived by: his four children; 13 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.

     He was preceded in death by: his parents – John and Harriett Mavencamp; his brother – Dale Mavencamp; his wife – Shirley Mavencamp; and a son-in-law - Steven Knott.

     A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Hagerman American Legion Hall in Hagerman. 

    Burial with military honors will follow at the Hagerman Cemetery.

    A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel.
