Virginia Bright Obituary

Virginia Mae Bright, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Filer, Idaho, on May 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on April 30, 1929, in Gooding, Idaho, to Hyram Muncie and Ettie Mae Mink, Virginia was the youngest of ten children. Her family later moved to a farm in Wendell, where she learned the value of hard work at an early age. With her older brothers serving in World War II, Virginia stepped up to help her parents manage the farm — a role she embraced with determination.

In 1947, she married James Bright, and together they had six children. Though their marriage ended in 1958, Virginia’s steadfast devotion to her family never wavered. She raised her children with resilience and love while also working full-time at the College of Southern Idaho as a librarian. Remarkably, she pursued her own education during this time and earned a degree in Library Technology in 1969.

Virginia proudly served the College of Southern Idaho for almost 23 years, eventually retiring as a respected and dedicated librarian. Her passion for books and education left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.

Outside of work, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Bowling with her close-knit group of friends was one of her favorite activities — a beloved tradition she enjoyed for many years and passed down to her children and grand-children.

Virginia’s life was a powerful example of perseverance, independence, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her sharp mind, gentle spirit, and the dedication to those she loved. There was nothing better to her than a good family visit, no matter how big or how often.

Virginia is survived by four children: Etta (Dean) Jensen, Martin Bright, Valerie (Marvin) Allen, and Coral Sparrow; 16 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; her sons - Edward Bright and Johnny Bright, one son-in-law - Jim Sparrow; one grandchild; and five great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wendell Cemetery, followed by lunch at the Wendell Senior Center, per Virginia’s request.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Wendell Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wendell Senior Center in her memory.

Thank you to Dr. Allen for his great care over the years and Idaho Home Health Hospice for all their help towards the end.
